Waitakere Volunteer Rural Fire Station
Campbell Brown Planning has obtained resource consent for the Waitakere Volunteer Rural Fire Force to construct a new purpose built fire station to house its operations.
The project seeks to enhance the Force facilities with an enlarged ante room, increased storage, service and office areas for the existing operation. The proposal will also upgarde the area that can be used for training purposes to allow the station to continue to act as a training hub. The new building will also allow the station to act as a Civil Defence Welfare Centre in emergency situations, should the need arise. The proposal will future-proof the facility and will allow continuing community service for 25 plus years.
The proposal involved the construction of a new building with an area of 360m2 and involved a number of planning issues including the construction of a building on a park together with visual, traffic and noise effects. The site surrounded by a number of land use actvities, including residential properties. The proposal also had to address wastewater issues due to the lack of reticulation.
