Michael began his career in planning and resource management in 1995. He achieved a Bachelor of Resource and Environmental Planning (Honours) from Massey University and is a full member of the New Zealand Planning Institute. In July 2011 Michael achieved certification (with excellence) as a commissioner under the Ministry for the Environment’s Good Decisions programme, and was recently appointed a member of the Auckland Urban Design Panel.
He has significant experience in both the public and private sectors in preparing and assessing a wide range of resource consent applications and District Plan changes. This allows him to provide sound expertise on a variety of complex development proposals and to prepare comprehensive and thorough environmental assessment reports.
Michael has extensive experience in oral and written communication through his senior management roles, his attendance at Council hearings and through the preparation of evidence to the Environment Court. With experience in policy development, his work includes plan changes for a Research Integration Campus in Tāmaki and relocating the Metropolitan Urban Limit within the Northern Strategic Growth Area.
He has acted in senior management and leadership roles in local government with accountabilities for managing the effective and efficient processing of resource consent applications.
Michael also advises on a wide range of matters including advice on development contributions, governance, organisational design and process and procedures.
Married with two sons, Michael enjoys cycling and running in his spare time.
